What do we do?

RUA’s main aim is to secure sustained investment in the UK road network, which carries 92% of passenger travel in the UK. Each year road users contribute well over £40 billion in taxes to the Treasury, but only a fraction of that amount is re-invested in our roads.

We believe that a decent road network should:

  • Provide equal access to employment, business and investment opportunities, leisure and social mobility for all regions of the UK
  • Allow traffic to flow freely and minimise congestion
  • Be ready to meet the long-forecast future demand
  • Be built to the highest environmental and safety standards
  • Provide good value for money and demonstrate the worth of investment in improving the road network in relation to other transport modes
  • Give UK business a fair basis on which to compete with its European neighbours
  • Be overseen by an independent regulator that the road-using public will trust to ensure that the taxes they pay for road use are wisely and fairly spent

RUA speaks up for road users in the media, Parliament and Whitehall.

RUA presents the facts to policy makers and politicians.
